Horizontal Directional Drilling

Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) is a steerable trenchless method of installing underground pipe, conduit, or cable in a long, shallow arc along a prescribed bore path using a surface-launched drilling rig. HDD is used in places where trenching or excavating is not practical, such as crossing rivers, roads, or existing infrastructure, because it causes minimal impact to the surrounding area.

It is particularly useful in areas where there are concerns about fractured rock formations, soil disturbance, groundwater contamination, unfavorable weather conditions, or disruption to densely urban or historic areas.
