Project Manager – Parks & Recreation/Sports Facilities (PE and Civil Engineering Experience Required)

WithersRavenel is recruiting for a Project Manager with a focus on Parks & Recreation/Sports Facilities. This team member will lead the planning, engineering, and project management of work with landscape architects, engineers and architects to balance functional needs with aesthetics to create a meaningful, memorable sense of place.

Duties and Responsibilities

Technical and Practice Leadership

  • History of design and development of individual sports venues to larger sports complexes, including:
    • Arenas, gymnasiums, stadiums, recreational/fitness centers, aquatic centers
    • Fields (rugby, cricket, soccer, football, lacrosse, field hockey, baseball/softball), tracks
    • Golf/tennis/basketball/pickleball/equestrian facilities
    • Water/skate/action sports parks
  • Provide professional engineering and site due diligence to realistically develop and design projects; Collaborate with landscape architects in our Design + Planning Team to develop concepts and plans to engineer and deliver integrated and innovative sports and recreational solutions
  • Address and navigate environmental challenges and understand LEED and SITES certification requirements
  • Plan and engineer sustainable sites that promote fitness, wellness and social engagement
  • Responsible and accountable for coordination, input, and enforcement of all technical aspects, (focused on engineering tasks) and policies of the Department and Company
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership for Team and Department. Determine and implement improved techniques, approaches, and alternative solutions
  • Lead quality control/quality assurance development and implementation consistent with Company and Department standards and the requirements of our clients and regulatory agencies
  • Lead, advocate, and monitor the use of current technology for design
  • Responsible for setting, monitoring, and achieving financial goals for the Team

Project, Client, and Team Management

  • Manage large, critical projects and, as needed, manage any size project
  • Engineer Design + Planning Team Lead projects
  • For those projects not directly managing, work with Landscape Architects to collaborate on design of all project sizes
  • Track and coordinate resource needs with PMs and other Departments

Personnel and Team Leadership

  • Lead, supervise, and monitor all assigned Team Members to achieve the goals and strategies for the Department
  • Lead, develop, and implement effective communication, performance management, and strategic skills needed to achieve Company, Department, Team, and project goals

Client and Business Development

  • Develop, implement, monitor, and participate in client/business development and relationship processes for the Department and Team
  • Collaborate with Business Development and Design + Planning Teams on business and client development
  • Seek opportunities for cross-selling to enhance and expand our existing client relationships during and after projects
  • Lead and/or assist in strategic pursuit of potential clients per Department initiatives and our core values including organizing and participation in conferences/networking events

Required Qualifications

  • Certified Professional Engineer (PE) in NC or ability to obtain NC PE
  • Self-motivated, engaged, and team-oriented with the ability to work independently
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and communication skills
  • Energetic, flexible, confident, and forward thinking
  • 4 to 8+ years of experience in the appropriate field of expertise (Design and Development of Parks/Rec and/or Sports Facilities)
  • 3+years of experience in leading teams
  • Civil 3D Experience Preferred
