19 Apr Know what lies beneath: April is National Safe Digging Month
As springtime brings homeowners outside to tackle yard projects, remember to think before you dig.
April is National Safe Digging Month. And while North Carolina homeowners should call 811 before they tear up the yard for that new garden, safe digging is important in the realm of public and private engineering projects as well.
WithersRavenel’s Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) staff and equipment can help identify the underground location of utilities. Using electromagnetic (EM) equipment and active or passive methods, WithersRavenel can designate conductive utilities such as copper telephone wire, coaxial cable, fiber optic cable, metallic water and sewer line, and gas line. Active methods are used for known utilities; passive methods are used for unknown utilities.
The benefits are tangible. Knowing the location of underground utilities provides greater certainty when designing a new project. Also, when it is time for construction, clients can dig without worrying about damage to utilities that could carry a hefty price tag while also inconveniencing citizens and businesses.
WithersRavenel’s SUE staff can provide services on a standalone basis or as part of new or existing projects. Want to know how our SUE staff can help you? Contact SUE Group Director Jonathan Nichols at (919) 238-0497 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
