10 May Meet NEPA Specialist Gary Kreiser
May is American Wetlands Month, and WithersRavenel is celebrating! Each week, we’re profiling one of our environmental professionals whose work includes wetlands. Today, meet NEPA Specialist Gary Kreiser. After more than a decade with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources, Gary came to WithersRavenel in 2020.
WithersRavenel: What sparked your interest in environmental science?
Gary Kreiser: Growing up, one of my favorite activities was spending time outside playing in the woods and creeks. I enjoyed observing the natural environment and learning about the different animals and plants.
WR: What is the best part of your job?
GK: The best part of my job is providing reliable information about natural resources and still getting to play in the woods.
WR How does your specialty, NEPA, relate to wetlands?
GK: The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requires that federal agencies review projects for significant environmental impacts. This review includes potential impacts to wetlands. During the NEPA process, wetlands need to be identified, and if impacts will occur, these impacts will need to be avoided or minimized.
WithersRavenel provides wetlands services to a variety of public and private clients across the state. See all of our wetlands services or contact Environmental Practice Area Lead Troy Beasley.
