Stormwater professionals from across North Carolina gathered for an educational workshop Thursday sponsored by WithersRavenel.
“Confluence: The WithersRavenel Stormwater Workshop” brought together engineers, financial professionals and industry workers to discover how communities are utilizing innovative solutions to address stormwater challenges. The free event took place May 2 at MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary, and attendees received Professional Development Hour credits.
WithersRavenel’s Ross Perry, PE, opened the event with remarks on “Floodplain Management: A Community’s Responsibility.” WR Financial Services Director Dennie Martin spoke on “Financial Management of Local Stormwater Initiatives.” Then our own Hunter Freeman, PE, LEED AP, talked about “The Art of Green Infrastructure.”
Following lunch, guest speaker Dr. William Hunt, a professor and extension specialist in North Carolina State University’s Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, addressed the crowd. Hunt’s speech, “It Just Rained 2 Feet ¦ Now What?” examined stormwater through the prism of Hurricane Florence, which devastated North Carolina communities in 2018.
Hunt has nearly 20 years of experience in the design, installation and monitoring of stormwater control measures. He teaches 20-25 short courses and workshops each year on stormwater topics throughout North Carolina and the United States.
Workshop attendees also attended a post-workshop event at Chatham Park in Pittsboro, where they could network and see WithersRavenel’s innovative stormwater management systems in action.
