02 Nov Ownership Month 2020 is a wrap!
The WithersRavenel ESOP Communications Committee (ECC) hosted a variety of educational, inspirational, and competitive events to promote and celebrate Ownership Month 2020.
Working in the field is always an adventure, and work sites can surprise even seasoned veterans with their array of discarded items. These random discoveries became the focal point of a scavenger hunt for our Geomatics field crews. Staff snapped photos with their finds, each of which was assigned a point value, in a bid to uncover the most—and most unusual—lost items.
This is just a small sample of what they found:
Throughout the month of October, our teammates volunteered for their communities and did good deeds at work and at home. They were encouraged to submit examples of how small acts of kindness have a big impact. Here are four examples of how they are making the world around them a little brighter:
- Laura E. did her part to keep her community green by recycling plastics, aluminum, and paper.
- Jenny M. created a monthly newsletter for the Share the Table food pantry in Pender County.
- Jess V. took donations to Goodwill and a local school, helped a neighbor with yardwork, and cleaned up her neighborhood.
- Keith P. helped run a trail support crew for four friends doing the 4 State Challenge, a 44-mile hike along the Appalachian Trail completed in 24 hours or less. The hikers raised $23,000 for Make-A-Wish of Central and Western North Carolina.
ESOP Virtual Roadshow
The ECC, Management Team, and Marketing Department teamed up to create a short video about the company’s ESOP. The video explains what an ESOP is, how our ESOP was created, and how to become a participant.
The ECC hosted six showings of the video, followed by a live question-and-answer session with our ESOP administrators. Employee-owners walked away with a better understanding of how to take ownership of this valuable retirement benefit.
Share Price Reveal Day
As a 100% employee-owned company, we are our own shareholders. By managing our projects well and taking care of our clients, we see an improvement in the long-term success of our company stock as well as our bottom line.
On the last day of Ownership Month, we gather together to review the ESOP valuation process and unveil the value of our stock. This year, we celebrated the success of the ESOP at a virtual meeting and small, masked and socially distanced lunches at local parks.
These events and others fulfilled the ECC’s three main objectives of providing ESOP Education, spearheading community outreach and volunteer programming, and promoting WithersRavenel culture.
Ownership Month 2020 may be behind us, but our spirit of ownership imbues everything we do at WithersRavenel. If you’d like to learn more about the benefits of ownership and explore opportunities to become an employee-owner with us, check out our Careers portal.
