Woodfield Investments developed Weston Corners, an 11-acre multi-family property, to showcase the latest trends in energy efficient features and community amenities. WithersRavenel was instrumental in developing a functioning site plan that maximized the use of the steeply graded site.
Weston Corners is located at the intersection of Weston Parkway and Evans Road near Lake Crabtree. The community offers 308 multi-family units, a parking deck, and multiple gathering spaces. Inside, residents have access to a clubroom with kitchen and game room, a conference room and Wi-Fi lounge, and a fitness center with yoga room. Outside, they can soak up the sun on the sky terrace, lounge around the pool and sundeck, or relax in one of two courtyards with artificial turf, grills, fire pits, and outdoor seating.
WithersRavenel provided a full suite of civil engineering and land development services to support Weston Corners. These services included rezoning, entitlements, surveying, environmental assessment for wetlands, utilities and stormwater infrastructure, civil site engineering, and hardscape and landscape planning.
The initial surveying revealed a 50-foot difference in elevation across the site. This topography made fitting a stormwater pond into the site particularly difficult. WithersRavenel addressed the challenging terrain by designing a four-tiered retaining wall to enclose the pond. The developer designed similarly stepped buildings to accommodate the grade.
Site access via conventional and alternative modes of transportation was a key consideration. WithersRavenel coordinated with the North Carolina Department of Transportation to implement roadway and sidewalk improvements. The firm also designed a bus stop with bus shelter and developed a new segment of greenway to connect with another private trail before ultimately connecting with Crabtree Creek Greenway.
Work on Weston Corners began in 2013 and was completed at the end of 2018.
