A WithersRavenel greenway project has received a prestigious award.
The Greater Triangle Stewardship Development Awards Program recognized WithersRavenel for its notable achievements on a 1.7-mile section of the Crabtree Creek Greenway in Cary. The Silver Stewardship Development Award was presented March 28 prior to a Cary Town Council meeting.
“We are grateful to be part of the award-winning team with the Town of Cary on the Crabtree Creek Greenway as the Town celebrates its 40 years of greenways this year,” WithersRavenel Project Manager Ed Tang said. “What an awesome way to celebrate!”
WithersRavenel served as the lead engineering and landscape architecture firm for this project, which offers many benefits to local residents, workers and visitors alike. GTSDA program judges specifically singled out several features of the greenway:
· The thoughtful placement of the boardwalk to reduce slope erosion
· The responsiveness of design decisions to flood data
· Green building practices such as long-lasting concrete decking and top-down construction
· Additional bicycle commuting and recreational options
The signature piece of the greenway’s innovative design is the 730-foot boardwalk across an arm of Lake Crabtree, which offers stunning views while also minimizing maintenance expenses with its unique material choice. Subconsultants assisting us on the project were Alpha & Omega Group, Ramey Kemp & Associates, GeoTechnologies, Inc., and TELICS.
WithersRavenel’s award was the only one presented by GTSDA during its current awards cycle.
The GTSDA honor marks the second award WithersRavenel has received for the project. The greenway was also recognized by the American Council of Engineering Companies of North Carolina (ACEC) with its 2019 state ACEC Engineering Excellence Award.
