Marketing Associate – Asheville, Cary, or Raleigh, NC

Marketing Associates at WithersRavenel create and uphold the company brand in print, online, and at educational and networking industry events. They combine analytical and creative thinking to develop clearly articulated and visually compelling materials that engage, inform, and persuade. They connect the dots between the needs of public and private entities; the expertise of WithersRavenel’s engineers, planners, and surveyors; and positive project outcomes.

The Marketing Associate is a production position: the selected candidate will be expected to take an active role in writing copy, laying out text and images, editing for readability, and producing hard copy and digital documents. Being successful in the position will require project management capabilities, like organizing information-gathering sessions, assigning tasks to technical staff, setting internal deadlines, and arranging for work product delivery. But the best fit is someone who enjoys being hands on and has the ability to motivate themselves and others.

Our Marketing Associates primarily produce qualifications–based proposals to public clients, but they also assist with fee-based proposals and proposals to private clients from time to time. Proposals need to create a positive experience for a mix of technical and lay reviewers, so a background in publication design is helpful and preferred.

Marketing Associates also indirectly support proposal development by maintaining firm, project, client, and personnel data in Deltek Vision, our company’s CRM software.

Marketing work isn’t limited to proposals, however, and the selected candidate will have an opportunity to carve out their own niche in the team. They might use their creative flair to support our graphic designers with the development of document templates, infographics, presentations, leave-behinds, and other marketing collateral. An intermediate to advanced knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Illustrator is a valuable asset here.

Or they might indulge their more analytical side by using their knowledge of Google Analytics specifically or SEO management broadly to audit, update, and monitor the analytics of the company’s website. In that case, a background in social media strategy and management is a boon.

Regardless of the path they take, all Marketing Associates provide a variety of incidental and support tasks. Examples include brainstorming ideas for social media campaigns with the team, photographing projects or personnel, and peer reviewing work products.

Because A/E/C marketing is deadline-driven, highly structured, and unforgiving when it comes to compliance, three to five years of previous work experience with an A/E/C firm is preferred but not required. Candidates are expected to have at least a Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field.

Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and Deltek Vision are the marketing trifecta, so competence in these programs is a must. Familiarity with WordPress, Google Analytics, and/or Yext is also plus.

Candidates should be prepared for extended hours based on deadlines or events, and working lunches may be required periodically. Travel with overnight stays may also be required, but infrequently. Candidates should be able to work at a computer for an extended period, lift 15lbs or less as required, and operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license.

The Marketing Associate reports to the Marketing Director; the Marketing Associate does not have any direct reports.
