Staff Geologist – Cary, Greensboro, Asheville

Position Summary

Completion of Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments (ESAs), participation in design, implementation and reporting for assessment and remediation projects and other related environmental projects. Completion of geologic and hydrogeologic characterization of sites for environmental, water supply, solid waste and waste application sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

These include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct environmental monitoring; including the collection of soil, surface water, sediment, groundwater and waste material samples
  • Conduct environmental surveys pertaining to health and environmental hazards
  • Perform emergency response activities
  • Communicate with site supervisors and contacts to adapt monitoring plan to schedule work activities

Survey Crew Chief – Wilmington Office

Description

WithersRavenel, an ESOP company is currently actively recruiting to the fill the position of Survey Crew Chief.

This person coordinates the activities of a field survey party, performs the most technically complex paraprofessional field surveying duties and performs other duties as required.  This individual is responsible for the effective performance, training, and safety of all members of a field survey party.

The Survey Crew Chief possesses a general knowledge of land surveying principles and practices. Including a thorough knowledge of field surveying practices.  Also, the Survey Crew Chief need to possess a working knowledge of the Subdivision Map Act and other federal and state laws and standards that regulate the land surveying profession.

Requirements
  • Acts as Survey Crew Chief for a field survey crew engaged in making plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects; participates in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers, resident engineers, and contractor representatives; assigns and monitors work, and provides input for evaluation of members of field survey crew; and instructs and trains survey crew in survey methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures.

Description

The Instrument Operator assists the Survey Crew Chief in the documentation, surveying and measuring of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction , mapmaking, land division, and titles.  This person is responsible for operating and maintaining field equipment including electronic total stations, auto levels, and data collectors.

Responsibilities

  1. Acts as instrument operator for a field survey crew engaged in making plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects.
  2. Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a resourceful, quick learner and is willing to self-educate and enjoys continuously learning new things. Candidates should possess the following attributes:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience required (MPA or MBA preferred)
  • 5+ years relevant work experience
  • Grant writing / administration knowledge and/or experience in state and federal grant programs (CDBG, USDA, ARC, EDA, CWSRF, DWSRF, CWMTF, PARTF, etc)

Stormwater Department

Stormwater Engineer (Entry-Level)

Responsibilities
  • Prepare calculations, technical reports, permit applications, designs, construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and project schedules for stormwater engineering projects.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, technical research, engineering design, and analysis for a variety of stormwater projects, including collection systems, stormwater control measures (SCMs), flood studies, and other projects.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Civil, Biosystems, Agricultural, or Environmental Engineering

Requirements

  • Certification as an Engineering Intern or Professional Engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers & Surveyors. Engineering students on schedule to graduate by May 2019 and pursuing an Engineering Intern certification may be considered for this position.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Manage time effectively, organize, and work on multiple projects simultaneously in order to meet project deadlines and client needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with civil engineering software packages such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PondPack, AutoCAD, Civil3D, or other water resources-related programs.
  • Experience (0 to 4 years) in the planning, design, and construction of stormwater collection systems, stormwater control measures (SCMs), and/or flood studies.
  • Familiarity with regulations and ordinances as they are applied by various authorities having jurisdiction within North Carolina.
