Staff Geologist – Cary, Greensboro, Asheville
Position Summary

Completion of Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments (ESAs), participation in design, implementation and reporting for assessment and remediation projects and other related environmental projects. Completion of geologic and hydrogeologic characterization of sites for environmental, water supply, solid waste and waste application sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

These include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct environmental monitoring; including the collection of soil, surface water, sediment, groundwater and waste material samples
  • Conduct environmental surveys pertaining to health and environmental hazards
  • Perform emergency response activities
  • Communicate with site supervisors and contacts to adapt monitoring plan to schedule work activities
  • Calibrate and maintain sampling and monitoring equipment in operational condition
  • Complete detailed project notes about health significance and environmental impact of field activities
  • Install borings / shallow monitoring wells with hand auger systems
  • Perform maintenance and repair of remediation systems

Qualification Requirements

  • Experience in environmental consulting, with demonstrated experience in the completion of geologic and hydrogeologic principals, site assessments, remediation, environmental audits, reporting writing, GIS, CAD, etc.
  • Excellent report writing skills and will need to develop a working knowledge of regulatory requirements.
  • Field experience with site assessments and remediation.
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
  • Position requires up to 75% travel. A valid driver’s license and clean driving record is required for this position.
  • Obtain PG within 2 years.

WithersRavenel, Inc. is currently seeking to fill the position of Geomatics Director in our Cary office. We are seeking a seasoned professional with management experience to join our firm as director of our 45+ person Geomatics Department in Cary, North Carolina. The Department currently offers GIS, SUE, UAS, Laser Scanning, Hydrographic and traditional land surveying to support both the public and private sector markets. The ideal candidate will have a PLS with a solid track record in land surveying with experience in the delivery of property, design and construction surveying in a firm offering civil / environmental engineering services.

The Geomatics Director will lead with ultimate responsibility for strategic planning, technological advancement, business development, recruitment & retention, financial performance and overall quality for the group. Ultimately the GDM will expand the practice of Geomatics into our other North Carolina offices.

Requirements
  • At least 10-15+ years’ experience in Land Surveying/Geomatics.
  • North Carolina PLS required (or ability to obtain via reciprocity).
  • 5-10 years demonstrated experience supervising and successfully managing projects within the constraints of time, cost, and performance requirements, providing technical oversight for projects and all related project phases and tasks, to include quality assurance reviews.
  • Experience in researching and performing property boundary and right-of-way research and analysis, performing and supervising GPS (Static, Rapid Static and RTK) field operations, construction staking, topographic surveys and boundary mapping for subdivisions, land conveyance, etc.
  • Experience working with land developers (commercial and residential) and public agencies.
  • Experience in building inter-departmental relationships and coordinating with other workgroups and technical services (includes civil, environmental, utilities, and planning/landscape architecture).
  • Demonstrated skill, knowledge, and proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson and TDS, LGO (Leica Geodetic Office), ArcGIS and related surveying software applications.

Survey Crew Chief – Wilmington Office
Description

WithersRavenel, an ESOP company is currently actively recruiting to the fill the position of Survey Crew Chief.

This person coordinates the activities of a field survey party, performs the most technically complex paraprofessional field surveying duties and performs other duties as required.  This individual is responsible for the effective performance, training, and safety of all members of a field survey party.

The Survey Crew Chief possesses a general knowledge of land surveying principles and practices. Including a thorough knowledge of field surveying practices.  Also, the Survey Crew Chief need to possess a working knowledge of the Subdivision Map Act and other federal and state laws and standards that regulate the land surveying profession.

Requirements
  • Acts as Survey Crew Chief for a field survey crew engaged in making plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects; participates in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers, resident engineers, and contractor representatives; assigns and monitors work, and provides input for evaluation of members of field survey crew; and instructs and trains survey crew in survey methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures.

Survey Technician – Wilmington Office
Description

The Instrument Operator assists the Survey Crew Chief in the documentation, surveying and measuring of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction , mapmaking, land division, and titles.  This person is responsible for operating and maintaining field equipment including electronic total stations, auto levels, and data collectors.

Responsibilities

  1. Acts as instrument operator for a field survey crew engaged in making plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects.
  2. Gathers field survey data through use of conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods; sets up, adjusts, and operates surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, in order to measure distances, elevations, and angles; prepares field notes and drawings; and performs field surveying for lots, roadway, bridges, and flood control projects, including installing surveying construction stakes, tying out existing intersection ties, and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control, right of way, monuments, corners, boundaries, and property lines.

Position Summary

The Landscape Architect is responsible for the completing landscape architecture tasks and projects. He/she will work with a multidisciplinary team of landscape architects, civil engineers, surveyors, designers, and other project managers to continue providing exceptional service and designs for our clients. The Landscape Architect will work with the entire team to develop site designs, land planning, report preparation, construction documentation, client meetings, planting, irrigation calculations, etc. Using generally accepted sustainable practices, project management software, and AutoCAD, Sketch-up, and Adobe Suite, the Landscape Architect will help to maintain profitability of projects, client relationships, business development, drawings, and the specifications library.

The position will be responsible for managing projects and overseeing design teams for parks, mixed-use, commercial, residential, and urban design projects. Candidates should have a Bachelors or Masters in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, strong proficiency in AutoCAD and excellent writing and communication skills.

Description

CAD Technician’s  are entry-level positions to support assigned planners, engineers, and landscape architects by providing technical CAD support and creating construction drawings using CAD software for projects under close supervision. They will also compile technical data from drawings, field notes, and/or electronic data.

Duties and Responsibilities

Technical

• Draft preliminary layouts from engineering notes, sketches, and/or other drawings, ensuring they meet our company and industry standards and codes

Stormwater Engineer (Entry-Level)
Responsibilities
  • Prepare calculations, technical reports, permit applications, designs, construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and project schedules for stormwater engineering projects.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, technical research, engineering design, and analysis for a variety of stormwater projects, including collection systems, stormwater control measures (SCMs), flood studies, and other projects.
