Job Purpose

CAD Designers are entry-level positions to support assigned planners, engineers, and landscape architects by providing technical CAD support and creating construction drawings using CAD software for projects under close supervision. Job Purpose

Construction Observers are moderate experience positions to support our Construction Administration Sector by providing on-site construction observation for horizontal construction activities. This would be done under the guidance of management. The primary goal will be to compare work products to the project’s approved plans and specifications and observe, document, and relay construction related information and issues. They will also compile and analyze technical data from drawings, field notes, and/or electronic data.

Job Purpose

Staff Environmental Engineer, Geologist or Scientists are technical full-time positions to support assigned engineers, geologists, or other technical positions in the preparation of draft Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessment reports, participation in design, implementation and reporting for assessment and remediation projects and other related environmental projects. They also assist in the completion of field work and literature review work for geologic and hydrogeologic characterization of sites for environmental, water supply, solid waste, and waste application sites.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental monitoring; including the collection of soil, surface water, sediment, groundwater and waste material samples.
  • Conduct environmental surveys pertaining to health and environmental hazards
  • Perform emergency response activities.
  • Maintain sampling and monitoring equipment in operational condition.
  • Oversee subcontractor installation of test pits, soil borings, monitoring wells or excavation work. Install borings with hand auger or DPT equipment.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of remediation systems.
  • Prepare drafts of written reports, proposals, tables of data, CAD drawings, boring logs, and sampling forms for review by Project Manager.
  • Work with project and senior staff to develop an understanding of a project’s scope of work, schedule, and budget. Communicate with site supervisors and contacts to schedule work activities.
  • Complete deliverables and project responsibilities within scope, budget, and schedule, reviewing technical documents and reports for completeness and accuracy.
  • Follow technical guidance and policies of the Department and Company.
  • Analyze technical problems; devise new or improved techniques, approaches, and alternative solutions; and communicate those to supervisor for approval and implementation.
  • Participate in scheduled Team meetings and, as needed, project meetings.
  • Participate in civic and community events.
  • Seek opportunities for cross-selling of WR services to enhance and expand our existing client relationships during and after projects.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Geology, or Environmental Science, or related field of expertise or equivalent experience.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in environmental consulting; with demonstrated experience in the completion of site assessments, remediation, environmental audits, data interpretation, and report writing. NC experience preferred.
  • Technical report writing skills and a working knowledge of NC and EPA regulatory requirements that are applicable to each project assigned. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office applications, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS.
  • OSHA Hazardous Site Operations Worker Training (1910.120).
  • A valid driver’s license and clean driving record is required for this position.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Successful completion of FE or FG exam or ability to obtain within six months.
  • NC Licensed Well Driller Certification.

Working Conditions

The position will require occasional evening and weekend work. The position also requires outdoor work throughout the year in urban, suburban, and rural settings for the collection of environmental samples, and to observe and document the work of subcontractors. Strict adherence to Health & Safety Plan and WR standard operating procedures in performance of field duties is required. Position may require use of personal protective equipment and air monitoring equipment to minimize the potential for exposure to contaminants. Position may require up to 50 to 75 percent occasional day travel.

Physical Requirements

Position requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds for short distances, kneeling, walking, lifting, and manually advancing hand operated drilling equipment. Staff Professional must also be able to mix concrete or grout as needed for well construction or abandonment jobs.

Stormwater Engineer – Cary, NC

Responsibilities

  • Prepare calculations, technical reports, permit applications, designs, construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and project schedules for stormwater engineering projects.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, technical research, engineering design, and analysis for a variety of stormwater projects including: collection systems, stormwater control measures (BMPs), flood studies, and other projects.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil, Biosystems, Agricultural, or Environmental Engineering

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of Sub-Surface Utility Engineering (SUE) experience using both Electromagnetic (EM) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) equipment. Experience with Survey Equipment such as, Total Stations and GPS would also be preferred. Candidates should have an Associate’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience.

Survey Crew Chief – Cary or Greensboro, NC

Job Purpose

The Survey Crew Chief coordinates the activities of a field survey party, performs the most technically complex paraprofessional field surveying duties and performs other duties as required. This individual is responsible for the effective performance, training, and safety of all members of a field survey party.

The Survey Crew Chief possesses a general knowledge of land surveying principles and practices. Including a thorough knowledge of field surveying practices. Also, the Survey Crew Chief need to possess a working knowledge of the Subdivision Map Act and other federal and state laws and standards that regulate the land surveying profession.

Requirements

  • Acts as Survey Crew Chief for a field survey crew engaged in making plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects; participates in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers, resident engineers, and contractor representatives; assigns and monitors work, and provides input for evaluation of members of field survey crew; and instructs and trains survey crew in survey methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures.
  • Gathers field survey data through use of conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods; sets up, adjusts, and operates surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, in order to measure distances, elevations, and angles; prepares field notes and drawings; and performs field surveying for lots, roadway, bridges, and flood control projects, including installing surveying construction stakes, tying out existing intersection ties, and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control, right of way, monuments, corners, boundaries, and property lines.
  • Performs complex surveying calculations using engineering; analyzes raw data for mathematical closure and geometric accuracy; provides detailed survey notations of surveyed field work.
  • Researches existing record information, including record maps, plans, deeds, easements, and right-of-way documents; and maintains field data records, survey project files, and indexing systems.
  • May perform mapping compliance or other related office survey duties as a temporary assignment in order to satisfy the training/experience requirement for the Professional Land Surveyor’s License.

Description

The Instrument Operator assists the Survey Crew Chief in the documentation, surveying and measuring of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction , mapmaking, land division, and titles. This person is responsible for operating and maintaining field equipment including electronic total stations, auto levels, and data collectors.

Responsibilities

  1. Acts as instrument operator for a field survey crew engaged in making plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects.
  2.
