After a 50-year career as a Professional Land Surveyor, Matt Crawford, PLS, retired from WithersRavenel at the end of 2023.
Matt joined WithersRavenel in 2018 as the company’s Director of Geomatics. He presided over the department during a time of continued growth for the company as well as technological advances, which allow our firm to provide greater surveying and remote sensing options to our public and private clients. Later, his focus at WithersRavenel changed, as he became Senior Delivery Officer. He helped ensure peerless project execution by our employees while also providing assistance on the technical side of projects.
“I wish to thank everyone with whom I’ve worked closely over the past five years for making this time with WithersRavenel the true pinnacle of my 50-year career as a Professional Land Surveyor,” Matt said. “Of all the firms I’ve worked with, I can honestly say that WithersRavenel is the very best in quality of work, quality of people and quality of fun. I should have found this company years ago!”
Matt is also a longtime musician, and played bass guitar with WithersRavenel’s house band, the WR Revenuers. The group performed at multiple corporate functions with set lists comprised of “whatever we could dig up and stumble through,” Matt said.
Matt and his wife Betsy are both accomplished artists and plan to devote whatever spare time they can find in retirement to “getting back to the studio.”
Previously, Matt served as president, vice president, and treasurer for the North Carolina Society of Surveyors, Triangle Chapter, and also for the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), Cape Fear Chapter in Wilmington. His career in surveying took him across North and South Carolina, and several years of surveying on federal contracts throughout the country. He graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in Forest Management.
Matt plans to continue working as an independent contractor, offering professional consulting services. WithersRavenel and the many clients Matt worked with wish him well in his future endeavors!
