WithersRavenel congratulates Mark Smith, GISP, on his promotion to GIS Director.
In his new role, Mark will lead the company’s team of GIS professionals as they provide critical Geographic Information Systems (GIS) services to support many of our engineering, design, and consulting projects. Additionally, WithersRavenel provides standalone GIS services to municipalities, helping them gather, analyze, and utilize community data to better understand their infrastructure and plan for the future.
An employee-owner at WithersRavenel since 2020, Mark has more than two decades of GIS experience. His background as a technician, team leader, and project manager positions him well to lead our team’s GIS service offerings.
“I’m excited for my new role and being able to manage an incredibly talented team of GIS professionals both in the office and in the field,” Mark said. “WithersRavenel provides countless means of GIS support for so many municipal clients from the North Carolina coast to the mountains. I look forward to working with the GIS team and our clients.”
Mark has a Master of Science degree in Natural Resources and Spatial Information Systems from North Carolina State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry and Wildlife Resources from Virginia Tech. He is a licensed GIS professional, and a former park ranger and environmental educator in the North Carolina state park system. Mark is also passionate about beekeeping and serves as a honey bee mentor and is pursuing his Master Beekeeper certification.
