WithersRavenel welcomes Megan Powell to our firm as a new employee-owner and Funding & Asset Management (FAM) Project Manager.
As the former Budget Manager and Internal Auditor for Henderson County, Megan brings a wealth of financial experience and insights from the municipal arena. Her recent work leading the county’s spending plan for millions in American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds will be beneficial for WithersRavenel clients trying to navigate COVID-19 budgetary priorities and rules in the coming months.
I’ve been on the local government side for 12 years,Megan said. This experience allows me to see things from their perspective while also providing uniquely tailored financial guidance.”
Additionally, Megan’s local government background includes direct work experience with solid waste and engineering, while her budgetary responsibilities involved departments throughout Henderson County public services. She regularly dealt with both elected officials and the public, presenting budgetary and government findings to a variety of audiences. Her internal auditing experience also means she brings a strong financial focus to her consulting role with each client.

Megan has a Master of Public Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Town Administration, City, and County Management, both from Appalachian State University. She has additional academic and professional education from UNC Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University.
A native of Eastern North Carolina, Megan lives in Asheville with her husband Brandon, daughter Piner, and Piper, an Airedale Terrier. She is active with the Junior League of Asheville, is a member of the North Carolina City, County Managers Association, and current 3rd Vice President of the North Carolina Local Government Budget Association.
