WithersRavenel employees are mourning the death of Ed Woloszyn, Director of Industrial Services in our Environmental practice area. He passed away Dec. 1, 2024, and was 61 years old.
Dom McManus, Senior Industrial Hygienist at WithersRavenel, knew Ed for several years. They initially worked together at another engineering and environmental firm, where Ed was also Dom’s supervisor. Dom remembers the two of them hitting it off from the initial job interview.
“I used to be a professional musician, and Ed loved music,” Dom said. “He loved Reba McEntire and was excited when he found out I played with her.”
Dom became close friends with Ed. In addition to working side by side, they spent time together away from the office, particularly enjoying the outdoors, as Ed loved grilling, fishing and hiking.
Ed was a longtime environmental scientist with more than 35 years of experience working in the field for several firms across the Carolinas. From natural resources to health, safety, and industrial services, he provided technical and management services to a variety of public and private clients. He had a master’s degree in Marine Earth and Atmospheric Sciences from North Carolina State University and a bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology from the College of Charleston.
“He was one of the smartest people I knew,” Dom said. “He really put a lot of thought into scopes of work, reports, he was really thorough. Ed was great with clients as well, always knew how to connect with people. And he had a desire to get a full idea of what clients were looking for.”
While Ed was dedicated to being a top-notch environmental consultant, his top commitment was to his family and friends, particularly his wife Cindy, and his twin daughters, Nicole and Samantha. “Everything he did was for those ladies,” Dom said.
Dom said that Ed was always there for people he cared about, and he “was lucky to have him as a friend.”
In addition to his wife and daughters, Ed is survived by his sisters, Regina Hoover, Anita Daugherty, and Julia Woloszyn, along with nieces and nephews. Bright Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements, and a future service will be announced.
