During a quarterly funding approval meeting, the State Water Infrastructure Authority (SWIA) announced its intent to award $245,802,741to eligible projects, including $9,461,859 to projects with funding applications submitted by WithersRavenel and WR-Martin (formerly Martin-McGill, Inc.).
As always, the funding process was intensely competitive, with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality receiving scores of applications:
- A total of 176 projects were submitted for Asset Inventory and Assessment (AIA) grants. SWIA recommended 37 projects for funding, 7 of which were submitted by the WithersRavenel/WR-Martin team.
- A total of 46 complete eligible wastewater project application were submitted for Wastewater State Reserve grants and Clean Water State Revolving Fund loans. SWIA recommended 22 projects for Wastewater State Reserve grant funding, including one project submitted by the WithersRavenel/WR-Martin team and one project submitted by WR-Martin.
- A total of 39 projects were submitted for Community Development Block Grant – Infrastructure (CDBG-I) and Hurricane Matthew Recovery funding. SWIA recommended funding 18 projects, including one of the two projects submitted by WithersRavenel/WR-Martin team and both of the projects submitted by WR-Martin.
- A total of 36 drinking water project applications were submitted for Drinking Water State Reserve Grants and Drinking Water State Revolving Fund loans. WR-Martin submitted one application, which was approved for loan funding.

SWIA was created within the Department of Environmental Quality (formerly the Department of Environment and Natural Resources) under North Carolina General Statute 159G-70. The Authority is an independent body with primary responsibility for awarding both federal and state funding for water and wastewater infrastructure projects as well as developing an annual state water infrastructure plan.
