Governor Roy Cooper identified professional engineering and land surveying services as an Essential Business and Operation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges of stay-at-home orders, WithersRavenel is continuing to hire new staff members to meet our client commitments.
We are adapting our hiring processes to reflect the need to maintain social distance. Our Human Resources department is conducting the entire employee onboarding process virtually, from initial interviews through new hire orientation to milestone check-ins.
HR has also teamed up with the IT and Marketing departments to make sure that new team members receive everything they need to get started teleworking. In addition to a computer, new hires receive a physical new hire orientation packet (along with links to digital copies of the material) and a care package of branded goodies like pens and sticky notes.
At an individual level, our staff will help to welcome their new teammates in variety of ways, such as introductions via Cisco Jabber and WebEx and virtual coffee breaks and happy hours.
We are also connecting all employeesnew and veteranwith Web-based resources to help them navigate the challenges of working from home. Topics include guides to setting up and using communication technology, tips for achieving productivity while preserving work/life balance, and strategies for managing stress.
“I’m proud to say that our HR team has creatively risen to the challenge of supporting both new hires and all of our team members during this challenging time,” said Jess Vollmer, WithersRavenel’s Chief People Officer and head of Human Resources. “We will be offering all of our managers and PMs LIVE online training next week from Gallup on the topic of ‘Leading Teams during Times of Disruption.’ We hope these types of initiatives will help us continue to thrive during this difficult and ever-changing environment.”
Every day, our employee-owners support state, county, and municipal governments; private utilities; and economic development agencies. These clients are responsible for safeguarding critical infrastructure and delivering essential services. Now more than ever, we are focused on enabling them to serve their customers: the people of our communities.
If you know someone with an all-in mentality, someone that demonstrates our Core Values of Integrity, Respect, Collaboration, Quality, Sustainability, and Community, have them submit a resume or reach out to our Human Resources team!
