An upcoming summit on aerospace opportunities in the Southeast will have both virtual and in-person learning opportunities.
The 2021 Southeast Opportunities in Aerospace Regional Summit (SOARS) will be Dec. 7-9. Virtual educational events will comprise the majority of the summit. Highlights include discussions on economic development, workforce development, and opportunities with the Department of Defense (DoD). Additionally, representatives from NCDOT, N.C. State University and other state, regional and national groups will be among the speakers and participants.
The lone in-person event is a special Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) demonstration. WithersRavenel Remote Sensing Manager Seth Swaim and Technician Travis Howell, both FAA Part 107-certified pilots, will take part in the demonstration and answer questions beginning at 1 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Emerging Technology Institute (ETI) in Red Springs, NC. A unique indoor and outdoor site, ETI is an innovation hub for the DoD and includes the largest sUAS (Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems) indoor flight facility in the country.
Swaim and Howell have many years of flight experience with WithersRavenel along with a background in developing UAS-based solutions for both public and private sector clients. For those unable to attend the event in person, a recording will be provided.
