To address increased growth and water demand within their service area, Onslow Water and Sewer Authority (ONWASA) was in need of a 2 MGD expansion at the Dixon Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The expansion will increase the Dixon WTP from 4 MGD to 6 MGD.
Due to an ongoing evaluation project, the expansion was broken up into two phases. WithersRavenel is providing survey, design, and construction services for Phase One of the 2 MGD expansion. In it anticipated that Phase Two will commence later this year. Phase One scope of work includes a new 18-inch raw water meter, meter structure, and associated piping, a new detention tank equipped with a new 2100 gpm updraft aerator and two new 100 HP filter pumps, upgrading the existing 2 MGD high service pumps to 5 MGD, upgrading equipment monitoring to VT SCADA software, the addition of aeration to the existing clear wells, and electrical modifications to the security lighting, Well 1, and the motor control centers.
The project is currently in design with construction likely to start in the second quarter 2026.
