Brightspire (formerly The Presbyterian Homes, Inc.) serves seniors throughout North Carolina, including at their Glenaire community in Cary. With the success of Glenaire, waitlists had become quite long, but expansion was impractical on the existing site due to physical constraints.
However, when a three-acre parcel became available to the south of the site across West Cornwall Street, the opportunity for growth became real. Additional property purchases allowed holdings to expand to 13 acres.
WithersRavenel is providing a variety of services to assist with the expansion, including:
- Rezoning support to allow for additional living quarters and skilled nursing
- Civil site construction drawings
- Site plan revisions
- Stormwater to irrigation conversion
- Entrance revisions
- Signal improvements
- Installation of a 6″ water meter
- Stormwater permitting and services
- Quasi-judicial support
- Limited construction phase services
The living quarters were also planned out in such a way as not to compete with existing offerings at Glenaire. The expansion will now give residents the ability to choose from apartments ranging in size from 750 square feet to 2,200 square feet.
The expanded Glenaire campus includes 192 independent living apartments, 35 assisted living accommodations, and an adult day care center that may accommodate up to 50.
The expansion and the existing campus complement one another. For example, the existing campus already has a beautiful pool, so there is no need for aquatics facilities in the expansion. Instead, Brightspire’s team expanded the fitness capabilities at Glenaire with a fitness center featuring pickleball courts, a half court gymnasium, workout equipment, and room for exercise classes. The expansion also increases the dining options by adding dining venues.
The existing campus isn’t being neglected: the amenity spaces and interiors of the existing campus just received $6 million in renovations and improvements.
The larger size of the expansion campus allows for Brightspire to provide transportation back and forth across Cornwall so residents on both sides of the street will be able to take advantage of the full breadth of programming and amenities.
