Aging infrastructure drives asset management journey
Salisbury-Rowan Utilities sought to improve the management and operation of its water and sewer systems. With aging infrastructure, significant data gaps, and a backlog of water main replacements, the utility aimed to develop a comprehensive understanding of system performance and create a sustainable approach to budgeting and asset management.
Water and sewer system model
Salisbury-Rowan Utilities partnered with WithersRavenel to develop a robust and integrated approach to water and sewer system modeling. Collaborating with the utility’s GIS department, WithersRavenel fixed data gaps and added advanced tools for better decisions. Key elements of the project included:
- Infrastructure Modeling: Using predictive modeling software, WithersRavenel modeled water mains, valves, and hydrants, creating detailed analyses to support planning and prioritization.
- Interactive Dashboards: WithersRavenel developed user-friendly dashboards for both water and wastewater systems. These tools provided a combined view, highlighting areas of overlap and enabling comprehensive planning.
- Budget Insights: The models showed how budget changes affect maintenance and long-term costs. Annual, step-by-step increases helped the utility plan gradual rate changes. This helped rates keep up with system needs.
WithersRavenel provided a range of professional services for the project, including utility asset management and technological services.
Making Salisbury-Rowan Utilities resilient
Salisbury-Rowan Utilities is now well-positioned to continue enhancing its infrastructure management strategy. WithersRavenel’s innovation and collaboration have helped the utility take significant steps toward achieving its long-term goals of resilient and efficient infrastructure.
