WithersRavenel and T. A. Loving are collaborating with the Wayne County Development Alliance and the City of Goldsboro on a design-build (DB) project, “Project Butter,” to provide major sewer system improvements which will drastically reduce infiltration and inflow and help bring more than 160 new jobs to the City of Goldsboro. State funding is helping to finance the infrastructure improvements which, in addition to facilitating the economic development, will also provide sewer improvements for Goldsboro residents, businesses, and medical facilities.
Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Southeast chose Phase 1 (Ash Street Pump Station Improvements) of the project as one of the winners of the 2024 DBIA-SE Award at the Regional Summit Awards Banquet.
The project utilizes a three-phase approach. Phase 1 involved the extension and re-routing of gravity sewer lines, new force main construction, and pump station modifications to accommodate economic growth. Phase 2 involves constructing a new pump station and force main, re-routing gravity sewer lines, and pump station abandonment and demolition. The Litte Cherry and Big Cherry pump stations are currently located in the floodplain of the Little River and Neuse River.
The new pump station will replace the existing pump stations and will be located above the floodplain. Phase 3 involves a pump station upgrade and a new force main at the Highway 117 Pump Station.
Services that are being provided by the DB team include water and wastewater engineering, pump station and conveyance design, hydraulic modeling, surveying, environmental permitting, construction observation, and funding administration.
The project includes 2,100 LF of 6-inch force main, 7,000 LF of 12-inch force main, 1,000 LF of 8-inch gravity sewer, 900 LF of 18-inch gravity sewer, and 2,700 LF of 24-inch force main.
