Through a partnership with nonprofits Purpose-Built Communities, the Southeast Raleigh Promise, and Wake County Public Schools, the YMCA of the Triangle created a community asset of a full-service YMCA facility, a public elementary school, approximately 120 affordable housing units, and community serving commercial uses.
WithersRavenel has guided the YMCA throughout this entire process assisting with site selection and providing master planning, civil engineering, environmental services, surveying, and landscape architecture for an 115,000 SF combined YMCA and Wake County elementary school on 31 acres with a pool, pool house, bus drop off, playground areas and multi-purpose athletic field.
Educational components—a mission of this project—include sustainable elements such as rainwater cistern water capture for irrigation and the integration of solar panels into the landscape.
Finally, a new greenway trail connection to the Walnut Creek Wetland Center. This project is an example of how public—private partnerships can be leveraged to improve our cities.
