Elizabethtown experiences frequent flooding with several areas of town experiencing more noticeable impacts. Elizabethtown is characterized by fairly flat, low-lying topography, which causes floodwaters to stand longer. Golden LEAF funding was used to develop a Stormwater Master Plan, which would help the Town assess its existing infrastructure, identify problem areas, and craft a roadmap to address them.
WithersRavenel’s stormwater team took on this project. Key components of the project included field data collection to supplement the Town’s stormwater asset inventory, modeling of existing watersheds, recommending areas for improvement, conceptual designs for the areas of improvement, and a summary report that will include overall recommendations.
WithersRavenel provided a variety of services, including project management, stormwater engineering, surveying of select storm structures and topographic mapping, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and master plan creation. We also developed conceptual stormwater improvement plans for the top areas of concern in Elizabethtown. These plans prioritized problem areas and included schematic designs and cost opinions.
The final deliverable to the Town was a comprehensive report detailing the methodology, findings, and recommendations in a stormwater master plan. The report also laid the groundwork to pursue possible funding opportunities for future stormwater improvement projects.
