The Town of Apex has opened two street hockey rinks at Apex Community Park to feed the Triangle’s growing love for hockey. The project was developed as part of a partnership between the Town and the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes.
The two 160-by-75-foot street hockey rinks include aluminum boards, penalty boxes, scoreboards, and fencing. Youth and adult programming are in the works and are expected to include beginner programs, leagues, clinics, and time for pick-up games.
WithersRavenel provided design and construction administration services to help bring this project to life. Our scope of work included landscape architecture, civil engineering, permitting, and bidding assistance for the rinks. The area includes an outdoor plaza, accessibility improvements, and accommodation for future site lighting and a future shelter.
The goal of the project is to inspire more youth to be interested in all things hockey and we are excited to partner with the Town and the Hurricanes on this new amenity for the region.
