Portfolio Street Hockey Rinks

• New Community Hockey Rinks Open in Apex: Two 160-by-75-foot street hockey rinks are at Apex Community Park, thanks to a partnership between the Town of Apex and the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes.

• WithersRavenel’s Role in Project Delivery: Provided design and construction administration services, including civil engineering, landscape architecture, permitting, and bidding assistance—ensuring the rinks meet accessibility standards and future expansion needs.

• Fostering Regional Hockey Growth: The rinks support youth and adult programming to spark greater community interest and engagement in hockey throughout the Triangle.

The Town of Apex opened two street hockey rinks at Apex Community Park to feed the Triangle’s growing love for hockey. The project is part of a partnership between the Town and the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes.

The two 160-by-75-foot street hockey rinks include aluminum boards, penalty boxes, scoreboards, and fencing. Youth and adult programming are in the works and will include beginner programs, leagues, clinics, and time for pick-up games.

WithersRavenel provided design and construction administration services to help bring this project to life. Our scope of work included landscape architecture, civil engineering, permitting, and bidding assistance for the rinks. The area includes an outdoor plaza, accessibility improvements, and accommodation for future site lighting and a future shelter.

This project aims to inspire more young people to learn and enjoy hockey. We are excited to work with the Town and the Hurricanes on this new facility for the area.
