The creation of a new Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance in Sylva brings a fresh look at the regulations guiding growth, most of which date back to 1998, when the Town first implemented its zoning ordinance, and 2009, when the Subdivision Ordinance was subsequently adopted.
To address deficiencies in the ordinances, the Town of Sylva commissioned an ordinance assessment. Using those documents as a guide, WithersRavenel has been able to address the most pressing concerns of Town staff, Boards, and residents as well as incorporate the mandated changes of North Carolina State Statute 160D into the updated ordinance. Staff has worked closely with the Planning Board and the Town and County staff to ensure project success.
