On Tuesday, January 28, WithersRavenel’s Director of Asset Management, Malak Bahrami, and PSD Citywide’s Director of Asset Management Advisory, Chris Vanderheyden, led an insightful discussion on emerging trends and strategies in asset management during the webinar “Asset Management Trends: New Year, New Insights for Sustainable Infrastructure.”
Together, they provided attendees with practical approaches to help municipalities build sustainable, resilient infrastructure in the face of evolving challenges. The discussion centered on key aspects of asset management, including strategies for building capacity, overcoming barriers, identifying opportunities, and leveraging innovations to start or enhance an asset management program.
A key highlight of the webinar was an in-depth look at the 2024 Asset Management Trends Report. Malak and Chris explored its findings and their implications for current asset management practices. One significant takeaway was the role of data confidence—38.6% of respondents reported higher confidence in decision-making when presented with accurate data. However, as Chris emphasized, data alone isn’t enough. Municipalities must fully embrace asset management as a driving force for change.
To help organizations move forward, Chris introduced a structured 3-Step Process for Developing an Asset Management Strategy:
- Assess the Current State of Assets
- Define a Future State of Maturity
- Develop a Strategy to Bridge the Gap
