What once was an unimproved foot trail along Lake Crabtree is now a scenic addition to the Triangle greenway system and an award-winning project.
The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of North Carolina awarded WithersRavenel a 2019 state ACEC Engineering Excellence Award on November 8 for its innovative achievements on the recently-completed 1.7-mile section of the Crabtree Creek Greenway in Cary.
WithersRavenel served as the lead engineering and landscape architecture firm for this project, which offers many benefits to local residents, workers and visitors alike. The new section of greenway provides a valuable connector to Raleigh and Morrisville greenways while also offering enhanced health and fitness options in a picturesque setting for people who live, work and play along the greenway and throughout the region.
The signature piece of WithersRavenel’s innovative design is the 730-foot boardwalk across an arm of Lake Crabtree, which offers stunning views while also minimizing maintenance expenses with its unique material choice. WithersRavenel is proud to have worked with the Town of Cary on this project that will serve thousands of Triangle residents and visitors annually.
Subconsultants assisting us on the project were Alpha & Omega Group, Ramey Kemp & Associates, GeoTechnologies, Inc., and TELICS.
