Where do land acquisition professionals gather to share insights, network, and explore opportunities? LandCon is the answer. Designed exclusively for professionals in the Triangle, this event provides a unique platform for those involved in the business of acquiring land.
Unlike broad industry conventions, LandCon focuses solely on the land acquisition sector. Launched in 2024, the events attracted representatives from a wide range of industries, including home builders, multi-family and retail developers, flex industrial, medical, and office sectors. These professionals came together to exchange ideas, discuss market trends, and explore the nuances of land acquisition in the Triangle.
The Vision Behind LandCon
WithersRavenel Business Development Representative Jed Byrne spearheaded LandCon with a vision to unite the land acquisition community in a way that had not been done before.
“I thought it would be very valuable, since all of the attendees are in the process of buying land, to gather the best and the brightest land brokers,” Byrne explained. “These are the people responsible for selling the land on behalf of their clients, and perhaps they could share a ‘State of the Market’ with this audience. We found out that the land brokers weren’t doing these types of events, and LandCon was born.”
A Thoughtful Approach
The inaugural event, held in August 2024 in Cary, explored the intersection of good design and good business. The panelists discussed how intentional design influences building and site proformas while addressing the creative challenges and opportunities that shape the design process. The event underscored the complex issues development teams face in delivering high-quality projects that serve their communities.
Building on this success, a second event in November delved deeper into the relationship between development and architecture. It encouraged collaboration between developers and architects, fostering the exchange of ideas to incorporate innovative design elements into projects.
Engaging and Collaborative Discussions for Land Acquisition Professionals
One of LandCon’s defining features is its interactive format, designed to encourage audience participation and practical dialogue. This collaborative approach fosters a dynamic and trusting environment where attendees can share experiences and learn from one another.
“There’s a lot of audience participation at LandCon,” Byrne noted. “Whether it’s audience-to-panel or panel-to-audience discourse, attendees are free to speak up at will. I’ll even call on people that I know and ask them to share their experiences because I know that others might find themselves in a similar situation. You don’t really get that level of trust and dynamic at other events.”
Looking Ahead
The next LandCon is scheduled for March 2025, promising to continue its mission of connecting and empowering land acquisition professionals.
