WithersRavenel’s Cameron Britt is retiring after more than four decades as a water and sewer designer.
Cameron was always fascinated by how things worked as a youngster. Additionally, his father drew house plans for an architect in Lumberton, and Cameron recalls sitting on his lap as a kid and helping with the cross hatches. These experiences drew him to professionally pursue engineering and design.
After earning an Associate of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Wingate University and also studying at North Carolina State University, Cameron spent most of his 40+-year career working with Koonce, Noble & Associates (KNA) of Lumberton. He served many municipal and private clients from across the region, including Robeson County and the City of Lumberton, where he grew up. WithersRavenel acquired KNA in 2021.
Some of Cameron’s memorable projects included working on water treatment facilities for Roberson County. The County has the largest water system in the state of North Carolina by land mass, and Cameron spent many years working on projects to improve its water mains, tanks, and wells. He also was in the midst of working on a $20 million water treatment plant project in Maxton, and looks forward to seeing that come to fruition.
At the same time Cameron is retiring, his longtime co-worker at KNA and WithersRavenel, engineer Bo Noble, is also leaving WithersRavenel. But the pair will still see plenty of each other: after going to school and working together for many years, the good friends still catch up regularly at Antioch Baptist Church in Lumberton and are planning to spend more time together on the shooting range.
Cameron enjoyed his long career with KNA and also his much shorter time at WithersRavenel.
“They’re just a great group of people to work with,” he said. “WithersRavenel is really the top of the food chain when it comes to technology. We had to learn a lot of new software, but it was good for us.”
Cameron plans to keep busy in retirement, managing his 5 1/2 acres while also spending time at a friend’s auto body shop and tending to the cows and horses at the farm there as well.
“I just go out there and get in everybody’s way,” Cameron laughed.
WithersRavenel wishes Cameron well in retirement and his future endeavors!
