Nearly a year after Tropical Storm Helene swept through Western North Carolina, communities like Montreat are still navigating the long road to recovery. WithersRavenel has been a key partner in that effort, helping the Town of Montreat manage the complex FEMA reimbursement process and keep critical infrastructure projects moving forward.
At the July 10 Montreat Board of Commissioners meeting, Michelle Faison, Funding and Asset Management Project Manager at WithersRavenel, delivered an update on the Town’s 14 active recovery projects, which are currently estimated at nearly $5.2 million. From repairing damaged culverts to restoring roadways and water infrastructure, these projects represent a significant undertaking.
Town Manager Savannah Parrish called Faison “instrumental” in Montreat’s recovery, emphasizing the importance of WithersRavenel’s guidance as FEMA begins transferring responsibility to the North Carolina Emergency Management team in the coming months.
Faison, a seasoned professional who has worked on 12 federal disaster recovery efforts, reminded commissioners that securing FEMA funds is a long process. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint,” she said, stressing the importance of ensuring Montreat receives every dollar it’s entitled to.
