Ready-mix facility accelerates concrete production
Eagle Rock Concrete is a start-up ready-mixed concrete producer headquartered in Raleigh, NC. They chose to build a new ready-mix concrete batch plant for their main operations. Eagle Rock built the plant at a former concrete and asphalt crushing site in Wake County.
The facility consists of:
- A material storage area and yard
- A truck wash-down facility
- A drum rinse-out area
- The concrete plant
WithersRavenel’s services provided at Eagle Rock Concrete
WithersRavenel designed the plant’s wastewater collection system, which captures, stores, and reuses industrial runoff via a closed-loop design. This protects the environment from harmful runoff contamination. Moreover, it saves the plant money by reducing water and material lost during normal operations.
Grading plans
The design includes a clear surface grading plan. Also, it prevents stormwater and wastewater from mixing. Additionally, it directs all surface wastewater to three ramped wash-out chambers.
Overflow concrete flume openings offset in each chamber basin provide extended detention settling time. As a result, suspended material is captured and reclaimed. Sloped ramps allow for easy access by heavy equipment to recover settled material for reuse.
To reduce clogging and support long-term site maintenance, there are no underground stormwater pipes used in the plant yard area.
Wastewater collection system
Within the plant footprint, the wastewater collection system collects surface runoff. It stores runoff from a 25-year, 24-hour design storm. Because controlling moisture is essential in manufacturing, we reuse industrial stormwater. We use it to hydrate aggregate and in the batching process.
A collaborative process
