Virtual Design Construction (VDC)/CAD Manager – Cary Office

Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt

Job Purpose

  • Create, promote and maintain programs, strategies for graphic, engineering and design software with the following objectives:
    • Standardization
    • Parallel workflows
    • Ongoing training plan
    • Constant improvement of quality of deliverables and internal processes
    • Constant improvement of efficiencies
    • Optimal utilization of software

Duties and responsibilities

The following responsibilities are included as means to reach these objectives:

  • Establish and prepare project-specific CAD and drawing standards and setup guidelines for multi-disciplinary projects
    • Work with CAD Committee on recommendations for corporate standards, guidelines, and
    • Creation, implementation and maintenance of a CAD standards
    • Auditing and enforcement of project CAD standards
  • Establish CAD usage, drawing delivery, and interface requirements in consultation with Departments
    • Create, analyze, and implement workflows with CAD Committee input
  • Create and implement plan for standardization between all Departments
  • Create and implement a Training Program
    • Oversee and participate as needed in the training of personnel on use of graphic and engineering design software
    • Oversee and participate as needed in the training of personnel on CAD and other design software standards
    • Provide ongoing support and direction for users
  • Software Systems Maintenance
    • Promote planning and advancing software to maintain pace with industry standards, in a reasonable manner (including BIM, Civil 3D, Microstation, and cloud architectures)
    • Create simplification, unification, and consistency of design software platforms
    • Coordinate with  IT  on  implementation, installation,  and management of software on user machines
    • Understand, coordinate, and troubleshoot usage of associated printers and plotters as related to design software drafts and deliverables
  • Coordinate, monitor, and provide CAD Support
    • Create and maintain centralized repository of CAD design details and notes for the company
    • Create and maintain unified template(s) as needed
    • Collaborate with and manage outside consultants as needed to assist in the accomplishment of the
  • Potential limited assistance with project related CAD tasks for project delivery if necessary (typically max of 20% per week), i.e. 80% nonbillable

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate Degree or equivalent experience.
  • At least 10 years of relevant CAD experience
  • Experience in civil engineering industry
  • Advanced knowledge in AutoCAD Civil 3D and related products
  • Ability to provide direction and guidance to others
  • A self-starter who is able to work unsupervised
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Effective time management skills
  • Experience with LISP and script development
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
  • Experience with Microstation/Geopak
  • Experience with various technical engineering analysis software
  • Experience with IT
  • Experience with integration, installation, and maintenance within AutoCAD Civil3D environment

Working conditions: Normal office working conditions.

Physical requirements: Occasional lifting of very light and lightweight materials, some lifting of average or heavy weight materials over 60 lbs.  Occasional bending, stooping and upper body and arm rotation.  Frequent pushing, pulling, sitting, standing and reaching with some climbing. Ability to lift at least 50 -65 pounds on a regular basis or as needed.

GIS Manager – Cary Office

Job Purpose

The GIS Manager is responsible for applying intensive and diversified knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) principles and practices in broad areas. Uses advanced techniques, theory precepts and practices in the GIS field and related sciences and disciplines.

Duties and responsibilities

A lead position, this level includes technical direction over a group of GIS Specialists and Technicians and/or functions as a technical specialist, formulating and developing advanced GIS concepts.

  • Supervises and coordinates technical and administrative GIS activities with those of other disciplines and other departments in the company participating on common projects. Must lead and direct work of subordinates.
  • The GIS Manager serves as a technical specialist, staff advisor and consultant to the GIS specialty for varying types of projects, equipment, or program functions. Individual carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved GIS techniques or procedures to create new or refined equipment, materials, processes or methods.
  • Markets the firm’s capabilities within the GIS specialty to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients. Prepares proposals for potential projects.
  • Allocates resources and technology to support other internal department projects.
  • Participates in the selection of GIS teams and sub consultants and in the negotiations of fees and subcontractors. Conducts constructability reviews or assists in the design, planning, review, and/or implementation of GIS projects not assigned to the incumbent.
  • May supervise GIS and support personnel: evaluates performance; assigns and schedules work; establishes project priorities and standards; makes recommendations on recruitment efforts to provide technical support of project work.
  • Prepares, provides, and updates maps and data sets to clients.
  • May assist in the preparation of the department/division budget implementation.
  • Holds membership in professional associations and participates on company committees.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering Discipline, Geography, or Computer Science or area of specialty.
  • 5-7 years minimum experience in GIS/Engineering
  • 2 years minimum management experience
  • High level of technical proficiency with ESRI GIS software
  • Some proficiency with other GIS and CAD platforms
  • GISP required
  • NC PLS (Professional Land Surveyor) license preferred

Working conditions

In the performance of the job duties, the employee will regularly work in an office environment, but may travel to multiple State/County/Municipal and other client facilities or locations in the course of work. The occasional field site visit may be required to assist in technical support for field personnel or client staff. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in the office and moderate in the field.

In the performance of job duties, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands, to finger, handle, feel, and operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Land Development Project Manager Candidates – Downtown Raleigh, Cary & Wilmington offices

WithersRavenel, an ESOP company, is seeking Land Development project managers in our offices listed above.   The ideal candidates will have 10+ years’ experience in design of land development related projects including site plan & construction drawings production, stormwater drainage and stormwater management design, site grading, site utilities and erosion control.  The position will be responsible for managing projects and overseeing design teams for parks, mixed-use, commercial, residential, and urban design projects.  Candidates should have a Bachelors or Masters in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, strong proficiency in AutoCAD and excellent writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

WithersRavenel, an ESOP company, is seeking civil designer candidates for all offices listed above.   The ideal candidates will have 2-4 years of  preparing civil engineering drawings, site plans, construction plans, and design details utilizing computer aided drafting software and methods.Candidates should have an Associate’s degree or related technical certificate and 4 years minimum years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Able to work with minimal direction and minimal supervision to produce engineering documents and related material
  • Ability to develop working drawings for civil site plans (grading, drainage, and paving) from sketches (determines scales, layout, and need for specific detail)
  • Experience with development of plan and profile drawings with an understanding of page layout and the use of exaggerated vertical scales
  • Work on multiple project tasks while maintaining a high level of flexibility and meeting deadlines

Sub-Surface Utility Engineering Professional - Cary Office

WithersRavenel, an ESOP company, is seeking SUE Professional candidates for our Cary location.  The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of Sub-Surface Utility Engineering (SUE) experience using both Electromagnetic (EM) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) equipment.  Experience with Survey Equipment such as, Total Stations and GPS would also be preferred.  Candidates should have an Associate’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with project team members, client representatives, review agencies and others as appropriate to the project.
  • Mentor team members
  • Perform Sub-Surface Utility Engineering services for both internal and external clients
  • Overall quality (accuracy, thoroughness, meets regulatory requirements, public relations) of work, safety, and maintenance of equipment
