Project Overview
Avalon Downtown Cary is a planned mixed-use development located at the corner of Walnut and Walker streets in the heart of downtown Cary, NC. Designed to bring residential living, ground-floor retail opportunities, and resident amenities to a prominent downtown location, the development occupies approximately half a city block and emphasizes walkability, accessibility, and connections to the surrounding community.
The property owner initially selected AvalonBay Communities through a competitive request for proposals based on the company’s experience delivering comparable mixed-use developments. Following selection, the project advanced through the Town of Cary’s development plan process as a by-right development under existing zoning.
WithersRavenel provided integrated services from planning through construction, including geomatics, environmental consulting, civil engineering, landscape architecture, stormwater design, and construction administration. This multidisciplinary approach supported coordination across the project’s site design, infrastructure, and landscape elements while helping create a cohesive, pedestrian-oriented environment along three street frontages.
