Opened in 2013, SearStone is a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) that offers assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory support to independent and active residents aged 62 and above. WithersRavenel has been involved in multiple areas of the community’s development since its inception. Services have included surveying, civil site design, and specialized stormwater management.
During Phase 1 of the project, WithersRavenel provided full site design services for the SearStone medical office building and associated parking located along Walker Stone Drive. The firm also provided site design, utility design, and permitting for the proposed expansion of the existing healthcare building.
During Phase 2, WithersRavenel provided rezoning support for Searstone North and full site design services for the expansion of the CCRC.
The 75-acre community uses a high-hazard dam, designed by WithersRavenel, as a stormwater management device and focal amenity. The design incorporates unique flood control measures for the one-third Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP) while coordinating with the aesthetic vision of the architect. The dam was successfully permitted through the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (formerly Department of Environment and Natural Resources) Dam Safety Program.
WithersRavenel is proud to have brought unique design features to the site, working with our wonderful partners on this project, Stewart & Conners Architects and Clancy & Theys Construction Company.
