September is National Preparedness Month. From home to community planning, properly preparing for a natural disaster or other emergency is vital.
WithersRavenel has a bounty of experience assisting public and private clients before and after natural disasters. We are working with the Southeastern Economic Development Commission (SEDC) on resiliency and recovery for a 12-county area. Our partnership began following Hurricane Matthew’s devastation in 2016. Since then, our work has extended beyond strictly hurricane recovery and preparedness to assistance with grant funding and engineering for water, wastewater and stormwater systems, along with other community resiliency planning.
Additionally, our Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) can provide governments and agencies with damage assessments following hurricanes. We’ve worked with NCDOT and other clients to provide drone imagery when conventional options to assess impacts were not available.
WithersRavenel also worked on emergency preparedness messaging for the City of Asheville for its North Fork Dam Improvement project. The goal of the communications plan was not only to make the community aware of changes at the dam site, but also to emphasize the importance of individual planning and readiness when it comes to potential flooding.
