School system prioritizes aging assets with a solid plan
WithersRavenel provided Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS) asset management solutions and lifecycle planning. This allowed the school system to prioritize its assets that needed a replacement or an upgrade.
Background
Located in central Maryland, BCPS serves 75,000 students each year. It runs 164 educational programs and employs over 8,500 staff members. The students and staff are spread across over 150 buildings and facilities within the district. Being able to spot problems with its assets was important. It helped keep the learning experience safe for everyone.
Challenge
Before contacting WithersRavenel, BCPS had years of data but lacked a way to turn it into action. Without this ability, it became harder for BCPS to know what they had. It also made it harder to see where improvements were needed. It also limited their ability to secure funding through grants or other financial options.
Solution
The WithersRavenel Funding & Asset Management team worked closely with all of BCPS’ directors to tailor solutions to fit their needs and concerns. With predictive modeling and lifecycle planning, WithersRavenel helped BCPS generate a solution that allowed them to input years of data. Consequently, BCPS could generate models that showcased where improvements need to be made in its facilities using various applicable funding sources.
Model Results
Uniquely, the model generated for BCPS (below) accounted for all of its different funding sources, which had strict criteria to fulfill. Our WithersRavenel professionals created this tailored model by compiling each funding source. Then they analyzed the qualifications per asset type.
Additionally, our team presented models like the one below that forecasted scenarios where funding opportunities were lost. This allowed BCPS to view the impacts that funding sources had on the overall conditions of their assets and how it could negatively impact them if funding sources were lost.
