Hayes Barton Place, a Liberty Senior Living community located in Raleigh, has been named the 2025 Senior Housing News Architecture & Design Award winner in the CCRC category. The project is Raleigh’s first life plan community inside the Beltline and reflects a high standard of design, community integration, and resident-centered amenities.
WithersRavenel’s Design+Planning team played a central role in delivering the award-winning site. Serving as the prime consultant for site design, the team provided civil engineering, landscape architecture, stormwater design, amenity planning, and a detailed 3D site model to help shape the community’s layout and outdoor experience.
Despite the site’s compact seven-acre footprint within a fully developed neighborhood, WithersRavenel helped create an amenity-rich environment that includes pickleball and bocce courts, a putting green, rooftop garden spaces, and outdoor social gathering areas. Strategic elements such as an underground stormwater system and a retaining wall near the property line enabled the community to maximize usable space without disrupting the surrounding neighborhood.
“Hayes Barton Place stands as a testament to Liberty Health’s commitment to exceptional quality and patient-centered care,” stated WithersRavenel’s Director of Design, Daniel Whatley, PLA, ASLA. “While the project is a state-of-the-art health and wellness facility, it is, more importantly, a place many will now call home. WithersRavenel’s design team approached the project with this in mind—crafting timeless architecture and thoughtfully designed landscapes that create welcoming, livable spaces residents can truly enjoy.”
Hayes Barton Place’s walkability, connection to nearby shops and restaurants, and its seamless fit within the Hayes Barton community were key factors in its recognition by SHN. WithersRavenel collaborated closely with LS3P ASSOCIATES LTD. and Liggett Design Group to realize Liberty Senior Living’s vision for a vibrant, integrated senior living community.
