WithersRavenel welcomes John Courtney, PLA, ASLA, LEED AP, as our new Director of Parks and Recreation.
John brings more than 30 years of award-winning design and landscape architecture experience to WithersRavenel. In particular, he has designed numerous large-scale sports facilities, and managed many parks and recreation projects.
With a focus on local development, health and wellness, John’s projects help communities realize recreational and athletic goals. His designs include aquatic centers, high school and college sports stadiums, local park facilities, and parks and recreation master plans.
John leads projects from the conceptual stage through completion with a focus on community engagement, innovation, sustainability, and exceeding client expectations. His skillset and collaborative spirit will deliver design solutions for WithersRavenel clients.
“I am very excited to join the WithersRavenel team in its pursuits and delivery of design and planning excellence in the parks and recreation sector,” John said.
John earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from Louisiana State University. He is a longtime licensed landscape architect and LEED-accredited professional. John and his wife, Liz, have three daughters, two of whom already live in North Carolina. John enjoys hiking, painting watercolors, and watching LSU play any sport. He has been an active volunteer in ASLA and with local parks agencies for more than 25 years.
