At WithersRavenel, we’re passionate about providing stormwater services to our clients. Each week in September, we’re profiling one of the amazing professionals from our Stormwater Department. Today, meet Staff Professional Antonio De Cecco. Antonio has worked at WithersRavenel for two and a half years. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech.
WithersRavenel: What sparked your interest in stormwater engineering?
Antonio De Cecco: It’s funny, one of the first songs I learned as a 4- or 5-year-old was the Watersong, a 30-second commercial on PBS describing the water cycle and to keep it clean.I guess you could say that laid the foundation for my interest in stormwater! I quickly became interested in STEM and wanted to protect our environment, most importantly our water resources, which led me to a career in stormwater engineering.
WR: What aspect of your job at WithersRavenel do you like the most?
AD: I enjoy the diversity of projects we work on – from SCM design and stormwater retrofits, to dam inundation studies and stormwater master plans, just to name a few! I feel fulfilled knowing that my work is having a positive impact in communities across North Carolina.
WR: What hobbies do you have outside of work?
AD: Probably not too surprising, but a lot of my favorite hobbies outside of work revolve around water! I enjoy taking my paddleboard on Crabtree or Falls Lake, hiking with my dog in Umstead State Park, especially along the many streams there, and long days at the beach. My dog loves to swim so it makes for a great excuse to go out and enjoy the outdoors.
