WithersRavenel congratulates Thad Ellington on his promotion to CAD/BIM Director.
Thad has nearly 25 years of engineering design, surveying and GIS experience at WithersRavenel, other consulting firms, and for municipalities. He has worked on a range of residential, commercial, municipal, Environmental, and industrial projects.
At WithersRavenel, he has been a key leader among our CAD designers and instrumental in defining our company CAD standards. Thad and Senior CAD Technician Stephen York teamed up recently on a company-wide rebranding of overall appearance and functionality of standard plan sets. Their efforts provided WithersRavenel with an updated current and consistent look across all disciplines.
In Thad’s new role, he will take on key leadership responsibilities within our CAD Support Team. Thad is passionate about the company’s success and works hard to see that stakeholder’s needs are considered when contemplating adoption of new standards, workflows, and processes. Thad’s experience with production teams that span the company’s design and geomatics services brings tremendous value to our organization.
Thad’s new role will encompass the following responsibilities:
- Communication
- Outreach to Practice Areas / Users
- Advancement of our Training / Onboarding / User Development Program
- Team Management
- Strategy
- QA/QC Reviews & Project Setup Assistance

In addition to his work experience, he holds numerous certifications in CAD and ArcGIS. Thad has two sons, and his wife Danielle works with special needs children. His hobbies include volunteering at Holly Springs High School for the football and basketball programs, where his son is a member of the varsity teams. When not spending time at his son’s games, he enjoys hanging out with his family and smoking meats.
